Choral Evensong
On Saturday March 2 2002, the Cathedral Old Choristers sang Choral Evensong with the Cathedral Girls Choir. The day attracted 17 Old Choristers including 4 ex-members of the Cathedral Girls Choir, Rhiannon Pugh, Holly Smith and sisters Kate and Hannah Whitehead.
The music sung was as follows:
| Responses | William Byrd |
| Psalms | 2nd Evening |
| Canticles | Basil Harwood in A flat |
| Anthem | Lord let me know mine end - Dr Maurice Greene |
The practices were taken by both David Poulter and Philip Stopford at 1 Abbey Square and were well attended with both old and new OC's. The day began at 3pm with a practice with the Girls in the former Cathedral Library, now the temporary Song School due to the imminent construction of the new Song School. There was some concern that we might only be able to muster about 10 OC's but this proved premature as others who had not been able to make the rehearsal turned up. We then entered the Quire for a run through with the organ before the service began.
The service was taken by Canon John Roffe and the responses were once again led by our President Dennis Kelly. The canticles were sung with bags of enthusiasm, and the anthem equally so.
Once again the service was well attended by our members and visitors to the Cathedral and it certainly added to the sense of occasion. We again must thank both David and Philip for their hard work and encouragement, making it a day to remember. They made it a lot of fun for us and we hope that they will allow us to join in again!
We retired to the Commercial Inn afterwards for a get together with both singers and congregation.
